The Ear Piercing Debate...

(my baby when she was 4.5 months :(:o)

2 weeks after her last set of jabs and I was itching to rush to Claire's to get mimi's ear pierced. But the amount of negative comments I have got (I was in Harrods the other day and a lady gave me the funniest look when she was like "oh you pierced her ears"..."yessss :/...do I know you!!!") and before piercing her ears I told a few mums that I was going to do it which all have little girls and none of them wanted me to do it!!! I'm as stubborn as a mule so obviously I went ahead and did it. I was standing in line and a 10 year old girl was getting hers pierced, this girl was moving like the needle was going to rip her ear off and she was crying frantically (even though she obviously choose to do it) and I was loosing my patience because Yh I don't like to wait!!! When it was milenas turn, the hardest thing was keeping her still as she is a little wriggly worm (reminds of of that peppa pig episode lol) ((I have the ability to go off track so easily)) but anyways...I pinned her down and simultaneously 2 people pierced her ears, she screamed for like 20 secs and that was it, 3 weeks of cleaning her ears with the solution and now at nearly 6 months her ears are completely healed. I did not see it as torturing the child!!! I'm Colombian and in my culture it is normal to pierce babies ears, they even do it in the hospital and she looked sooo cute with her tiny gold balls!!! So as I posted earlier as mothers we have to decide things like this, but in my personal opinion most little girls will want their ears pierced at some point and it is more traumatic to get something done when you are expecting pain, if you know something is going to hurt you will anticipate the pain and hence hurt for longer!!! Milena was 4 months so she never touched the earrings so it never got infected, Claire's do all the checks in terms of the red book, she sterilised the needle in front of me and took the earring out of a secure packing (I watched like a hawk as she put new gloves on and refused to sign anything until she sterilised everything like a gazing night owl) Another reason is that Milena doesn't have to worry about going to school and taking them out so they are going to heal perfectly (imagine that little girl who got her ears done she might have to take the piercing out to go to school and it's just going to close up and then she is going to have to go through the stress again...long for man) and last but not least her little baby skin heals so much quicker, so I know this post will get mixed reviews and as I said we all decide what we want to do, but I'm team pierce da lobe and put in a scatty hoop lol, team gypsy baby lol x
